Bernedoodle Sizes Explained:
How Big Do Bernedoodles Get?
Bernedoodles come in a wide range of sizes, from tiny Micro Bernedoodles to larger Standard Bernedoodles. Adult size depends on the parents, generation, and genetics of each pairing.
At O'Hearon's Amazing Puppies in Utah, we offer thoughtfully planned Bernedoodle litters with estimated adult weight ranges to help families choose the right companion. Explore our size guide below to understand the differences between Micro, Mini, Medium, and Standard Bernedoodles.
Bernedoodle Size Names Are Not Official Standards
Bernedoodle size labels can vary from breeder to breeder. There is no single universal standard for terms such as mini, micro, or medium. Adult size is influenced by the size of the parents, generation, genetics, and normal variation within a litter. For this guide, we use approximate ranges to help families compare sizes more easily.
Our Bernedoodle Size Guide
Standard Bernedoodle
Approximately 70 pounds and over
Medium Bernedoodle
Approximately 40 to 70 pounds
Approximately 25 to 40 pounds
Micro Bernedoodle
Approximately 10 to 25 pounds
Extreme Micro Bernedoodle
Approximately under 10 pounds
Size ranges are estimates, not guarantees. We evaluate each pairing individually and provide an expected adult size range for every OAP litter based on the parent dogs and genetics involved.
How We Estimate Adult Size
Adult weight can never be predicted with absolute certainty, but the parent dogs, previous litters, generation, and genetic information can help us estimate a reasonable range. Puppies within the same litter can still mature at different sizes, so we give families a range rather than promising an exact adult weight.
Which Bernedoodle Size Is Right for Your Family?
The best size depends on more than the number on the scale. Consider your home, activity level, travel plans, grooming needs, children, other pets, and the size of dog you feel comfortable handling. Temperament and lifestyle fit should always matter just as much as projected adult size.
Larger Bernedoodles
May appeal to families who love the substantial build and presence of a Bernese influenced dog.
Mini and Medium Bernedoodles
Can offer a nice balance for families wanting a smaller companion without going extremely small.
Micro and Smaller Bernedoodles
May appeal to families prioritizing portability and a smaller adult size, but thoughtful structure and health should remain more important than producing the smallest dog possible.
OAP Size Estimates
At O’Hearon’s Amazing Puppies, we estimate size by the individual pairing rather than relying only on labels. For example, some of our Mini Bernedoodle pairings are expected around 20 to 35 pounds, while other litters may fall into a different range. Always use the expected size listed for the specific litter or puppy you are considering.
Generation can also influence expected size and other traits. Learn more in our Bernedoodle Generations Guide.
Bernedoodle Size FAQ
Can you guarantee my Bernedoodle’s adult weight?
No breeder can guarantee an exact adult weight. Parent size, generation, genetics, nutrition, development, and normal variation can all influence final size. We provide the most reasonable estimated adult range we can for each pairing.
Can puppies from the same litter mature at different sizes?
Yes. Littermates can finish at noticeably different adult weights, even when they share the same parents. That is why we use estimated ranges rather than promising one exact number.
What size Bernedoodle does OAP usually produce?
Our litters can fall into different size ranges depending on the pairing. Some of our Mini Bernedoodle pairings are expected around 20 to 35 pounds, while other pairings may mature larger. We list the expected adult size range with each litter and individual puppy whenever possible.
Are Mini, Micro, and Extreme Micro official Bernedoodle sizes?
No. Mini, Micro, Medium, and similar Bernedoodle size labels are not official breed standards, and breeders may use the terms differently. At OAP, we provide the expected adult size range for each specific pairing so families have a more useful estimate than the label alone.
